Renewable Energy Management Platform for a 10kWp Solar System

Educating the Next Generation about Green Power

Students Embrace Solar Energy for a Brighter Future

Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School in Hong Kong encourages students to take the initiative to learn, to explore in innovative ways, and to contribute to the future well-being of society. The school decided to install a solar system on its campus as a way to support green energy, reduce electricity expenses, and cultivate the seeds of energy conservation knowledge among students.

CLPe was engaged in 2019 to build a 10kWp photovoltaic (PV) system and renewable energy management platform at the school. The energy management platform it installed allows the school to easily manage its solar system with the data collected and visualised on a dashboard. There is also a remote monitoring centre for solar systems in the CLPe network that enables its team to respond immediately to potential faults and alert the school.

Challenges and Solutions

Value Created for the Customer

  • Providing an Easy-to-Use Platform

The platform can be viewed at any time from any location through a web portal or on mobile devices. It shows the real-time performance of the system and includes customised carbon emission activities, such as flights and driving, to indicate the equivalent carbon dioxide saving as well as the energy conservation achieved by the solar system. These features allow users to clearly and easily understand the positive impact of using renewable energy.

  • Managing Solar Power Efficiently

The platform installed by CLPe allows the school to manage its solar project easily. It provides an assessment of the daily yield of the solar system which helps to assign any maintenance to the soonest off-peak time and minimises losses, ultimately increasing the revenue generated by the system.

  • Educating the Next Generation

The platform is an effective means of strengthening green energy awareness among students, offering valuable, hands-on opportunities for a new generation to learn about the immense potential value of renewable energy in an era of climate change.
